Getting to Coochie
Coochiemudlo Island is one in the group of islands (with MacLeay, Russell, Lamb and Karragarra Islands) dotting the southern part of Moreton Bay. It is approximately 40 kilometres southeast of the Brisbane city center and 70 kilometres north of the Gold Coast.
To get to Coochie, you need to get to the Victoria Point jetty on Masters Avenue, and then take a pleasant 10-minute ferry or barge ride across the bay to the island. Coochie is in plain view from the Victoria Point jetty.
GETTING TO THE VICTORIA POINT JETTY
If using public transport, we suggest that you use Translink’s journey planner to
check out the different ways to get to Coochie. It automatically develops travel options via public transport based on the origin and destination points of your trip (feel free to use 10-16 Dawn Street, Coochiemudlo Island for your destination point — this is the home of Coochie Island Resort). Alternatively, you can also call Translink on 13 12 30.
In general, there are two ways to get to Coochie via public transport:
- Through Cleveland - Train service is available to Cleveland. From there, you need to grab a bus to the Victoria Point Shops, and then another bus from there to the Victoria Point Jetty
- Through Capalaba - Both the 270 and 271 will take you to the Victoria Point Jetty from Capalaba .
If you’re taking off from Brisbane, the 271 (1 hour, 40 minutes) and the 279 (1 hour, 20 minutes) will take you right at the doorstep of the Victoria Point Jetty.
The relevant bus routes terminating at the Victoria Point Jetty:
- 270 Victoria Point Jetty - Capalaba (Victoria Point and Alexandra Hills via Redland Bay Road)
- 271 Victoria Point Jetty - Brisbane (via Pt Halloran, Victoria Point bus station, Alexandra Hills, Capalaba, Chandler and Buranda)
- 277 Victoria Point Jetty - Victoria Point Shops and Point Halloran

If using private transport, we are unable to recommend an online tool to assist you with your journey. WhereIS.com would have you take off from the Redland Bay jetty! Be aware that ferry and barge services to Coochiemudlo Island are only available from the Victoria Point jetty on Masters Avenue. GoogleMaps is better in terms of accuracy, though it seems to take a roundabout way of getting to Coochie — it takes an hour and a half for a trip that we know for a fact takes no more than 40-45 minutes.
